IMEI is the unique number identification of a cell / mobile phone. All mobile phones have a unique number – therefore you would not find two with the same number.
To check your IMEI number, key in “*#06#” (star hash zero six hash) on your Nokia mobile phone’s keypad just as you would when you dial a phone number to make a call.
More detailed info. This only applies for phones after year 2004.
Format of IMEI is just like show below:
AA-BBBBBB-CCCCCC-D
AA-BBBBBB = Type Allocation Code (TAC)
CCCCCC = Serial sequence
D = Luhn check digit. (or zero if no checks)
From AA: you can know the Reporting Board – example 35 is BABT (British Approval Board for Telecommunications).

You can always look at the sticker under your phones battery. Its not always correct 
sometimes it is MADE BY NOKIA

My IMEI indicates, using your formula, that my phone was indeed made in Finland [01]. I live in Australia but NokiaCare here says it came from Bangladesh. How is this determined?

I think you put this wrong…the IMEI only valid from 2002 to 2004 (not after 2004!, it’s before)
The IMEI format changed after 1st April 2004 and the 7th and 8th code is not for the assembly plant anymore…

Hi i bought a nokia 6120 classic yesterday and was thinking about the country of origin when i came across this post. The 7th and 8th number of my imei is 02. Some websites say that it is germany and some say it is emirates. However, the label under the battery says that it is made in korea. It seems in not the only person who is troubled with this kind of a dilemma. Can somebody give us correct details on this issue?

The above listing is totally wrong or phony. I have Nokia phone with 02 made in China, 03 made in Hungary.
Aim these are just to analyze not released by company but nokia generally follow that series and yes all accessories are made in china now
